耶羅波安王就籌劃定妥，鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對眾民說：「以色列人哪，你們上耶路撒冷去實在是難；這就是領你們出埃及地的神。」

這事以後，耶羅波安仍不離開他的惡道，將凡民立為邱壇的祭司；凡願意的，他都分別為聖，立為邱壇的祭司。

所祭祀的鬼魔並非真神，乃是素不認識的神，是近來新興的，是你列祖所不畏懼的。

耶羅波安在邱壇那裏建殿，將那不屬利未人的凡民立為祭司。

亞倫從他們手裏接過來，鑄了一隻牛犢，用雕刻的器具做成。他們就說：「以色列啊，這是領你出埃及地的神。」亞倫看見，就在牛犢面前築壇，且宣告說：「明日要向耶和華守節。」次日清早，百姓起來獻燔祭和平安祭，就坐下吃喝，起來玩耍。耶和華吩咐摩西說：「下去吧，因為你的百姓，就是你從埃及地領出來的，已經敗壞了。他們快快偏離了我所吩咐的道，為自己鑄了一隻牛犢，向它下拜獻祭，說：『以色列啊，這就是領你出埃及地的神。』」

摩西回到耶和華那裏，說：「唉！這百姓犯了大罪，為自己做了金像。

現今他們罪上加罪，用銀子為自己鑄造偶像，就是照自己的聰明製造，都是匠人的工作。有人論說，獻祭的人可以向牛犢親嘴。

聖靈明說，在後來的時候，必有人離棄真道，聽從那引誘人的邪靈和鬼魔的道理。

他們在何烈山造了牛犢，叩拜鑄成的像。如此將他們榮耀的主換為吃草之牛的像，

他們本是鬼魔的靈，施行奇事，出去到普天下眾王那裏，叫他們在神全能者的大日聚集爭戰。（

撒馬利亞啊，耶和華已經丟棄你的牛犢；我的怒氣向拜牛犢的人發作。他們到幾時方能無罪呢？這牛犢出於以色列，是匠人所造的，並不是神。撒馬利亞的牛犢必被打碎。

你竟行惡，比那在你以先的更甚，為自己立了別神，鑄了偶像，惹我發怒，將我丟在背後。

我乃是說，外邦人所獻的祭是祭鬼，不是祭神。我不願意你們與鬼相交。你們不能喝主的杯又喝鬼的杯，不能吃主的筵席又吃鬼的筵席。
