他徵詢臣僚的意見後，就鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對民眾說：「以色列人啊，你們上耶路撒冷敬拜太麻煩了。這兩個金牛犢就是領你們出埃及的神明。」

這事以後，耶羅波安沒有改邪歸正，他任命各種人做邱壇的祭司，不管誰想做祭司，他都封立他們。

他們祭拜的不是真神，而是鬼魔，是他們素不認識的新神明，是他們祖先所不敬畏的。

耶羅波安又在高崗上修建神廟，任命各樣的人做祭司，他們並非利未人。

亞倫用這些金耳環鑄造了一頭牛犢。他們說：「以色列人啊，這就是把你們帶出埃及的神明。」亞倫見狀，便在牛犢前面築了一座壇，然後宣告說：「明天是耶和華定的節期。」第二天清晨，百姓都上前來獻燔祭和平安祭，獻完祭後就坐下吃喝，起來狂歡。耶和華對摩西說：「你快下山吧，你的百姓，就是你從埃及領出來的那些人已經敗壞了。他們這麼快就偏離了我吩咐他們走的道路，為自己造了一頭牛犢來叩拜獻祭，說，『以色列人啊，這就是把你們帶出埃及的神明。』」

摩西回到耶和華那裡，說：「唉，百姓犯了大罪，用金子為自己造了神像。

如今他們作惡日甚，憑藉自己的聰明用銀子鑄造神像，但這不過是匠人之作。人們議論他們說：「那些獻祭的人竟親吻牛犢偶像！」

聖靈明確地說，日後必有人離棄真道，去追隨那些迷惑人的邪靈和鬼魔的學說。

他們在何烈山鑄造牛犢，祭拜偶像，他們把榮耀的上帝變成了吃草之牛的鑄像。

其實牠們都是鬼魔的靈，能行奇蹟。牠們到普天下召集各王，預備在全能上帝的大日子來臨時聚集爭戰。

我鄙棄撒瑪利亞人所拜的牛犢，我要向他們發怒，他們到什麼時候才能潔身自守呢？這牛犢是以色列的工匠造的，並不是神，必被砸得粉碎。

反而比前人行惡更甚，為自己設立其他神明，鑄造神像，惹我發怒，把我拋在腦後。

當然不是，我的意思是那些異教徒所獻的祭是祭鬼魔的，而不是獻給上帝的。我不願意你們與鬼魔有任何關係。你們不能又喝主的杯又喝鬼魔的杯，不能又吃主的聖餐又吃祭鬼魔的食物。
