Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

“ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

“ Your father put a heavy load on our shoulders. But now make our hard work easier. Make the heavy load on us lighter. Then we’ll serve you.”

“ Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.”

“ Your father was a hard master,” they said.“ Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us. Then we will be your loyal subjects.”

“ Your father made our yoke harsh. Therefore, lighten your father’s harsh service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay[ them] on men’s shoulders; but they[ themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve,[ was] with rigour.

I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.For my yoke[ is] easy, and my burden is light.

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint[ them] for himself, for his chariots, and[ to be] his horsemen; and[ some] shall run before his chariots.And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and[ will set them] to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.And he will take your daughters[ to be] confectionaries, and[ to be] cooks, and[ to be] bakers.And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards,[ even] the best[ of them], and give[ them] to his servants.And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put[ them] to his work.He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.

Judah and Israel[ were] many, as the sand which[ is] by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they[ were] men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
