他们把难担的重担捆起来，搁在人的肩上，但自己一个指头也不肯动。

过了多年，埃及王死了。以色列人因做苦工，就叹息哀求，他们的哀声达于神。

“你父亲使我们负重轭，做苦工，现在求你使我们做的苦工、负的重轭轻松些，我们就侍奉你。”

埃及人严严地使以色列人做工，使他们因做苦工觉得命苦；无论是和泥，是做砖，是做田间各样的工，在一切的工上都严严地待他们。

我向我的百姓发怒，使我的产业被亵渎，将他们交在你手中，你毫不怜悯他们，把极重的轭加在老年人身上。

我们遵守神的诫命，这就是爱他了，并且他的诫命不是难守的。

我心里柔和谦卑，你们当负我的轭，学我的样式；这样，你们心里就必得享安息。因为我的轭是容易的，我的担子是轻省的。”

“管辖你们的王必这样行：他必派你们的儿子为他赶车、跟马，奔走在车前；又派他们作千夫长、五十夫长，为他耕种田地，收割庄稼，打造军器和车上的器械；必取你们的女儿为他制造香膏，做饭烤饼；也必取你们最好的田地、葡萄园、橄榄园赐给他的臣仆。你们的粮食和葡萄园所出的，他必取十分之一给他的太监和臣仆；又必取你们的仆人婢女，健壮的少年人和你们的驴，供他的差役。你们的羊群他必取十分之一，你们也必作他的仆人。那时你们必因所选的王哀求耶和华，耶和华却不应允你们。”

犹大人和以色列人如同海边的沙那样多，都吃喝快乐。

惟有以色列人，所罗门不使他们作奴仆，乃是作他的战士、臣仆、统领、军长、车兵长、马兵长。

所罗门在世的日子，从但到别是巴的犹大人和以色列人都在自己的葡萄树下和无花果树下安然居住。
