And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said,“ I will never leave you nor forsake you.”So we may boldly say:“ The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Give us this day our daily bread.

“ Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?“ So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?“ Therefore do not worry, saying,‘ What shall we eat?’ or‘ What shall we drink?’ or‘ What shall we wear?’For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Then Jacob made a vow, saying,“ If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,

“ For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.”’

I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives,and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor— it is the gift of God.

Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me;Lest I be full and deny You, And say,“ Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

And he blessed Joseph, and said:“ God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long to this day,

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.

Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God.For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I?For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds;For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations.When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in,The lambs will provide your clothing, And the goats the price of a field;You shall have enough goats’ milk for your food, For the food of your household, And the nourishment of your maidservants.
