Timothy, guard what God has trusted you with. Turn away from godless chatter. Stay away from opposing ideas that are falsely called knowledge.

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called“ knowledge,”

But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

Some people have strayed from these things and have turned aside to fruitless discussion,

And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

But stay away from worthless stories that are typical of old women. Rather, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are useless and worthless.

As a result, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.

For it is written:“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the understanding of those who have understanding, I will confound.”Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,
