當諭此世之富者、心勿傲、無定之財勿恃、惟賴永生上帝、洪賜我眾、百物以享之、

當諭此世之富者、心勿驕傲、勿恃無定之財、惟恃永生天主、厚賜我眾百物以享之、

叮嚀斯世富人、不可驕傲；財富無常、未足恃也。所可恃者、惟天主耳。天主慨然以萬物賜予吾人、俾得充量享受者、

Granted! They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear!

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the LORD, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things,” says the LORD.

Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it!

The disciples were astonished at these words. But again Jesus said to them,“ Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

for riches do not last forever, nor does a crown last from generation to generation.

You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone– gods that cannot see or hear or comprehend! But you have not glorified the God who has in his control your very breath and all your ways!

Here is a misfortune on earth that I have seen: Wealth hoarded by its owner to his own misery.Then that wealth was lost through bad luck; although he fathered a son, he has nothing left to give him.

Now the believer of humble means should take pride in his high position.But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow.

I have seen personally what is the only beneficial and appropriate course of action for people: to eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all their hard work on earth during the few days of their life which God has given them, for this is their reward.To every man whom God has given wealth, and possessions, he has also given him the ability to eat from them, to receive his reward and to find enjoyment in his toil; these things are the gift of God.

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ I tell you the truth, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven!

in case I am delayed, to let you know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, because it is the church of the living God, the support and bulwark of the truth.

The Babylonian tyrant pulls them all up with a fishhook; he hauls them in with his throw net. When he catches them in his dragnet, he is very happy.Because of his success he offers sacrifices to his throw net and burns incense to his dragnet; for because of them he has plenty of food, and more than enough to eat.

They are immune to the trouble common to men; they do not suffer as other men do.Arrogance is their necklace, and violence their clothing.Their prosperity causes them to do wrong; their thoughts are sinful.They mock and say evil things; they proudly threaten violence.They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.

You people of this generation, listen to what the LORD says.“ Have I been like a wilderness to you, Israel? Have I been like a dark and dangerous land to you? Why then do you say,‘ We are free to wander. We will not come to you any more?’

My blessing is on those people who trust in me, who put their confidence in me.They will be like a tree planted near a stream whose roots spread out toward the water. It has nothing to fear when the heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought. It does not stop bearing fruit.

The king uttered these words:“ Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for a royal residence by my own mighty strength and for my majestic honor?”

I charge you before God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who made his good confession before Pontius Pilate,

whom he poured out on us in full measure through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Repay her the same way she repaid others; pay her back double corresponding to her deeds. In the cup she mixed, mix double the amount for her.As much as she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself,‘ I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’
