Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

And he said,“ O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham.

But his servants came near and said to him,“ My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you,‘ Wash, and be clean’?”

And they said,“ Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”

And he said to his disciples,“ Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come!

But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them,‘ These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’

and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.Then Abram said to Lot,“ Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.

When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him,

Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ,not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man,knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.

Were you a bondservant when called? Do not be concerned about it.( But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.)For he who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ.

Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

The angel of the Lord said to her,“ Return to your mistress and submit to her.”

I was angry with my people; I profaned my heritage; I gave them into your hand; you showed them no mercy; on the aged you made your yoke exceedingly heavy.

and said,“ Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord has led me in the way to the house of my master’s kinsmen.”

therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything. And he will put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you.

So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.

Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.”

The Lord has greatly blessed my master, and he has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, camels and donkeys.And Sarah my master’s wife bore a son to my master when she was old, and to him he has given all that he has.My master made me swear, saying,‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell,but you shall go to my father’s house and to my clan and take a wife for my son.’I said to my master,‘ Perhaps the woman will not follow me.’But he said to me,‘ The Lord, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my clan and from my father’s house.Then you will be free from my oath, when you come to my clan. And if they will not give her to you, you will be free from my oath.’“ I came today to the spring and said,‘ O Lord, the God of my master Abraham, if now you are prospering the way that I go,behold, I am standing by the spring of water. Let the virgin who comes out to draw water, to whom I shall say,“ Please give me a little water from your jar to drink,”and who will say to me,“ Drink, and I will draw for your camels also,” let her be the woman whom the Lord has appointed for my master’s son.’“ Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her water jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. I said to her,‘ Please let me drink.’She quickly let down her jar from her shoulder and said,‘ Drink, and I will give your camels drink also.’ So I drank, and she gave the camels drink also.Then I asked her,‘ Whose daughter are you?’ She said,‘ The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ So I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her arms.Then I bowed my head and worshiped the Lord and blessed the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me by the right way to take the daughter of my master’s kinsman for his son.Now then, if you are going to show steadfast love and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.”Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said,“ The thing has come from the Lord; we cannot speak to you bad or good.Behold, Rebekah is before you; take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has spoken.”When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself to the earth before the Lord.And the servant brought out jewelry of silver and of gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave to her brother and to her mother costly ornaments.And he and the men who were with him ate and drank, and they spent the night there. When they arose in the morning, he said,“ Send me away to my master.”Her brother and her mother said,“ Let the young woman remain with us a while, at least ten days; after that she may go.”But he said to them,“ Do not delay me, since the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”They said,“ Let us call the young woman and ask her.”And they called Rebekah and said to her,“ Will you go with this man?” She said,“ I will go.”So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men.And they blessed Rebekah and said to her,“ Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, and may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him!”Then Rebekah and her young women arose and rode on the camels and followed the man. Thus the servant took Rebekah and went his way.Now Isaac had returned from Beer-lahai-roi and was dwelling in the Negeb.And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming.And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the cameland said to the servant,“ Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said,“ It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself.And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had,“ Put your hand under my thigh,

Now therefore what have I here,” declares the Lord,“ seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail,” declares the Lord,“ and continually all the day my name is despised.

and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

“ Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?

Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,

Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

Now the Syrians on one of their raids had carried off a little girl from the land of Israel, and she worked in the service of Naaman’s wife.She said to her mistress,“ Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”

“ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. But you say,‘ How have we despised your name?’

And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.
