Thus they bring judgment on themselves, because they have broken their first pledge.

If they do that, they will be judged. They have broken their first promise.

and so incur condemnation for having abandoned their former faith.

Then they would be guilty of breaking their previous pledge.

and will therefore receive condemnation because they have renounced their original pledge.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel–

For it is time for judgment to begin, starting with the house of God. And if it starts with us, what will be the fate of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, because you know that we will be judged more strictly.

But I have this against you: You have departed from your first love!Therefore, remember from what high state you have fallen and repent! Do the deeds you did at the first; if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place– that is, if you do not repent.

If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you assemble it does not lead to judgment. I will give directions about other matters when I come.
