“ What are all your sacrifices to me?” asks the LORD.“ I have had enough of burnt offerings and rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I have no desire for the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.When you come to appear before me, who requires this from you— this trampling of my courts?Stop bringing useless offerings. Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons and Sabbaths, and the calling of solemn assemblies— I cannot stand iniquity with a festival.I hate your New Moons and prescribed festivals. They have become a burden to me; I am tired of putting up with them.When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.“ Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from my sight. Stop doing evil.

They will march out against you from one direction but flee from you in seven directions.The LORD will grant you a blessing on your barns and on everything you do; he will bless you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he swore to you, if you obey the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways.Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you bear the LORD’s name, and they will stand in awe of you.The LORD will make you prosper abundantly with offspring, the offspring of your livestock, and your land’s produce in the land the LORD swore to your ancestors to give you.The LORD will open for you his abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never downward if you listen to the LORD your God’s commands I am giving you today and are careful to follow them.Do not turn aside to the right or the left from all the things I am commanding you today, and do not follow other gods to worship them.

The little that the righteous person has is better than the abundance of many wicked people.For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD supports the righteous.The LORD watches over the blameless all their days, and their inheritance will last forever.They will not be disgraced in times of adversity; they will be satisfied in days of hunger.

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you.Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children, like young olive trees around your table.In this very way the man who fears the LORD will be blessed.May the LORD bless you from Zion, so that you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your lifeand will see your children’s children! The result of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place, in safe and secure dwellings.

Can a man be of any use to God? Can even a wise man be of use to him?

“ Why have we fasted, but you have not seen? We have denied ourselves, but you haven’t noticed!”“ Look, you do as you please on the day of your fast, and oppress all your workers.You fast with contention and strife to strike viciously with your fist. You cannot fast as you do today, hoping to make your voice heard on high.Will the fast I choose be like this: A day for a person to deny himself, to bow his head like a reed, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the LORD?

“ The one who conquers I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never go out again. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God— the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God— and my new name.

This is a symbol for the present time, during which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper’s conscience.They are physical regulations and only deal with food, drink, and various washings imposed until the time of the new order.

His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.

Food will not bring us close to God. We are not worse off if we don’t eat, and we are not better if we do eat.

“ To the one who conquers I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

This saying is trustworthy. I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed God might be careful to devote themselves to good works. These are good and profitable for everyone.

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.
