有些人偏離了這些，就轉向無意義的辯論，

有些人不以這幾樣為正鵠，就偏向虛妄的談論，

有些人偏離了這些，轉向了虛妄的話，

乃有失此而向虛誕、

有人棄此、轉求虛誕、

有人棄此、轉求虛誕、

今同人中頗有不此之務、而歧入蹈虛鑿空之迷途者；

Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk.

Some have turned from these teachings. They would rather talk about things that have no meaning.

Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion,

But some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions.

For there are also many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from Judaism.

But avoid foolish debates, genealogies, quarrels, and disputes about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

But reject foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they breed quarrels.The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient,

he is conceited, understanding nothing, but has a sick interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slander, evil suspicions,and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding irreverent, empty speech and contradictions from the“ knowledge” that falsely bears that name.By professing it, some people have deviated from the faith. Grace be with all of you.
