As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer

Timothy, stay there in Ephesus. That is what I told you to do when I went into Macedonia. I want you to command certain people not to teach things that aren’t true.

holding to the faithful message as taught, so that he will be able both to encourage with sound teaching and to refute those who contradict it.For there are many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from the circumcision party.It is necessary to silence them; they are ruining entire households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly.

So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him,being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ,and you have been filled by him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.You were also circumcised in him with a circumcision not done with hands, by putting off the body of flesh, in the circumcision of Christ,

After the uproar was over, Paul sent for the disciples, encouraged them, and after saying farewell, departed to go to Macedonia.And when he had passed through those areas and offered them many words of encouragement, he came to Greeceand stayed three months. The Jews plotted against him when he was about to set sail for Syria, and so he decided to go back through Macedonia.

Command this also, so that they will be above reproach.

While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciplesand asked them,“ Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”“ No,” they told him,“ we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”“ Into what then were you baptized?” he asked them.“ Into John’s baptism,” they replied.Paul said,“ John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in tongues and to prophesy.Now there were about twelve men in all.Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly over a period of three months, arguing and persuading them about the kingdom of God.But when some became hardened and would not believe, slandering the Way in front of the crowd, he withdrew from them, taking the disciples, and conducted discussions every day in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.This went on for two years, so that all the residents of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.

Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.

Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.

“ Write to the angel of the church in Ephesus: Thus says the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and who walks among the seven golden lampstands:I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil people. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars.

But I have this against you: You tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and deceives my servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat meat sacrificed to idols.

I am confident in the Lord that I myself will also come soon.

But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block in front of the Israelites: to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.

Command and teach these things.

When they reached Ephesus he left them there, but he himself entered the synagogue and debated with the Jews.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the good teaching that you have followed.
