So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.

故吾人不欲效世人之醉生夢死、常宜昭昭惺惺、淡泊有節。

So let us not be like the others. They are asleep. Instead, let us be wide awake and in full control of ourselves.

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

It teaches us to say“ No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

“ Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

This is why it is said:“ Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.“ Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

The captain went to him and said,“ How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.”

It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“ Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God.

In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self- controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Simon,” he said to Peter,“ are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.“ Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back— whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God— I say this to your shame.

Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.

Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.

But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

What I say to you, I say to everyone:‘ Watch!’”

But women will be saved through childbearing— if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
