how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God which was in Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank out of them.They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone.Suddenly the fingers of a human hand emerged and began writing opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, and the king saw the back of the hand that did the writing.Then the king’s face became pale and his thoughts alarmed him, and his hip joints loosened and his knees began knocking together.

And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man:people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, and they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, and they were building;but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

These people will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

You who live in Lebanon, Nested in the cedars, How you will groan when sharp pains come on you, Pain like a woman in childbirth!

He says to himself,“ God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”Arise, Lord; God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the humble.Why has the wicked treated God disrespectfully? He has said to himself,“ You will not require an account.”

We have heard the report of it; Our hands are limp. Anguish has seized us, Pain like that of a woman in childbirth.

For this reason my loins are full of anguish; Pains have seized me like the pains of a woman in labor. I am so bewildered I cannot hear, so terrified I cannot see.My mind reels, horror overwhelms me; The twilight I longed for has been turned into trembling for me.

Like tangled thorns, And like those who are drunken with their drink, They are consumed Like stubble completely dried up.

to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

What will you say when He appoints over you— And you yourself had taught them— Former companions to be head over you? Will sharp pains not take hold of you Like a woman in childbirth?

You indeed put them on slippery ground; You dropped them into ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.

You snakes, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

The people repeatedly cried out,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Therefore this wrongdoing will be to you Like a breach about to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant,

The pains of childbirth come on him; He is not a wise son, For it is not the time that he should delay at the opening of the womb.
