Come ye,[ say they], I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day,[ and] much more abundant.

Fear took hold upon them there,[ and] pain, as of a woman in travail.

Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see[ it].Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require[ it].

What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them[ to be] captains,[ and] as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.How are they[ brought] into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.As a dream when[ one] awaketh;[ so], O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;[ Even] every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say,[ It is] truth.

He, that being often reproved hardeneth[ his] neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.Therefore they turned[ their backs] before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which[ came] out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.

The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:

[ Ye] serpents,[ ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Now why dost thou cry out aloud?[ is there] no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail.Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go[ even] to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

And the people gave a shout,[ saying, It is] the voice of a god, and not of a man.And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he[ is] an unwise son; for he should not stay long in[ the place of] the breaking forth of children.
