Do not treat prophecies with contempt

Don’t treat prophecies as if they weren’t important.

Do not despise prophecies,

But the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification, exhortation, and consolation.The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but the one who prophesies edifies the church.Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but rather that you would prophesy; and greater is the one who prophesies than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edification.But now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophecy, or of teaching?

So then, tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is not for unbelievers, but for those who believe.Therefore if the whole church gathers together and all the people speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are insane?But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all;the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took away some of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. Yet they did not do it again.But two men had remained in the camp; the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other, Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them( and they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp.So a young man ran and informed Moses, and said,“ Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”Then Joshua the son of Nun, the personal servant of Moses from his youth, responded and said,“ My lord Moses, restrain them!”But Moses said to him,“ Are you jealous for my sake? If only all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Every man who has something on his head while praying or prophesying disgraces his head.

and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

For we know in part and prophesy in part;

If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

Therefore, the one who rejects this is not rejecting man, but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.

Afterward you will come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is; and it shall be as soon as you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and a lyre in front of them, and they will be prophesying.Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be changed into a different man.

Then Saul sent messengers to take David, but when they saw the company of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing and presiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul; and they also prophesied.When Saul was informed of this, he sent other messengers, but they also prophesied. So Saul sent messengers again the third time, yet they prophesied.Then he went to Ramah himself and came as far as the large well that is in Secu; and he asked,“ Where are Samuel and David?” And someone said,“ Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.”So he proceeded there to Naioth in Ramah; but the Spirit of God came upon him also, so that he went along prophesying continually until he came to Naioth in Ramah.He also stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all that day and all night. Therefore they say,“ Is Saul also among the prophets?”

When they came there to the hill, behold, a group of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, so that he prophesied among them.And it came about, when all who previously knew him saw that he was indeed prophesying with the prophets, that the people said to one another,“ What is this that has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”And a man from there responded and said,“ And who is their father?” Therefore it became a saying:“ Is Saul also among the prophets?”When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.

And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.
