But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men[ to] edification, and exhortation, and comfort.He that speaketh in an[ unknown] tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater[ is] he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying[ serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in[ those that are] unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or[ one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on[ his] face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that[ was] upon him, and gave[ it] unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass,[ that], when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.But there remained two[ of the] men in the camp, the name of the one[ was] Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they[ were] of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses,[ one] of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets,[ and] that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual[ gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy.

And though I have[ the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where[ is] the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing[ as] appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that[ is] in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where[ are] Samuel and David? And[ one] said, Behold,[ they be] at Naioth in Ramah.And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say,[ Is] Saul also among the prophets?

And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What[ is] this[ that] is come unto the son of Kish?[ Is] Saul also among the prophets?And one of the same place answered and said, But who[ is] their father? Therefore it became a proverb,[ Is] Saul also among the prophets?And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

And when Paul had laid[ his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
