Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

Then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.

But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

For we don’t desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.

All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said,“ For I will go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.” His father wept for him.

But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants,“ Is the child dead?” They said,“ He is dead.”Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into Yahweh’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him, and he ate.

Now concerning spiritual things, brothers, I don’t want you to be ignorant.

The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said,“ My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!”

He said,“ Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”
