But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

對於已亡之人、勿過於哀傷、一如未具望德者之所為；此吾不欲兄弟之不知也。

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope.

But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.

and saying,“ Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

These things He said, and after that He said to them,“ Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.”Then His disciples said,“ Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.”However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.

“ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

So David rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David.

For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God,Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

The wicked is banished in his wickedness, But the righteous has a refuge in his death.

Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said,“ Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.”And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead.

Then He said to me,“ Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say,‘ Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

“ You are the children of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead.For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you( but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.

Otherwise it will happen, when my Lord the king rests with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted as offenders.”

Martha said to Him,“ I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life.

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,

“ Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke; yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down.Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.”So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded.

And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said,“ For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” Thus his father wept for him.

When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants,“ Is the child dead?” And they said,“ He is dead.”So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus:“ O my son Absalom— my son, my son Absalom— if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!”

And he said:“ Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
