爾等事事以予為懷、且能遵守予之教訓、誠可嘉也；

蓋爾等信而有行、愛而能勞、仰望吾主耶穌基督、確乎不拔、故在天主聖父之前、時切馳思、不能自已、

西拉、蒂茂德自馬其頓來；葆樂傳道益切、力證耶穌即為基督；

因是予仰體基督耶穌之慈心、切慕爾眾、有如飢渴；耿耿此心、主實鑒之。

蓋吾儕抵馬其頓時、險象環生、不遑寧息、外有鬥爭、內有憂怖；惟矜寡恤謙之天主藉提多之來、以寬慰吾儕之心；而吾儕之尤所欣慰者、乃提多以其所得於爾處之安慰、轉以相慰也。彼且縷述爾等之如何懸懸於我、休戚相關、肝膽相照、此吾之所以愈感興奮者也。

為我兄弟恆謝天主、實為吾儕之天職也。夫以爾等信德之突飛猛進、及彼此間友愛精神之暢發、則吾儕之感謝天主、不亦宜乎。

我葆樂親筆祝爾平安。請恆念吾之縲絏願恩寵常與爾偕、心焉祝之。

夫所當勸告於人者、一言以蔽之、亦曰以光明之心地、純潔之天良無妄之信德、存養愛德而已矣。

厥後葆樂離雅典、抵格林多、

視被囚者、一若己之被囚。視受苦者、一若己之受苦。

兄弟當猶憶吾儕傳授天主福音時之如何艱辛困苦、躬自操作、夙夜不遑、以免加爾之累。

在基督道中、受割與否、無關宏旨、亦惟興於仁而立於信而已矣。

蓋聞爾等既能堅信基督耶穌、又能熱愛眾聖、

嗚呼、吾儕在天主之前、因爾而得偌大神樂將何以報答天恩？惟日夜祈求、賜與爾重見、以增補爾之信德耳

對於前輩神師、曾授爾以天主之道者、應念念不忘、追思其生平行誼而踵效其信德。

予承祖宗遺風、一秉純潔之心、昭事天主；實天主之洪恩、有以致之；感激之情、充溢五內。予又感謝天主、使予能為汝祈禱、晝夜不輟；

蓋爾之確信吾主耶穌、篤愛眾聖、時有所聞；

兄弟乎、我儕雖暫與爾等睽隔、然中心愛慕、與日俱長。

無他、吾人守其誡命、而恆行其所悅也。誡命云何、曰：信仰其聖子耶穌基督之名義、並遵其所諭、而彼此相愛是已。

現所存者、惟信、望、愛三德；三德之中、愛為大。
