Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God— which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

是以我儕謝天主不已、因爾聞我儕所傳天主之道、爾受之、非視之如世人之道、乃視之為天主之道、是誠天主之道、力行於爾諸信者中、

且爾等一聞吾儕口授之天主福音、不以其為世俗之教、乃審知其實為天主聖道、而欣然納之。故聖道亦緣爾之篤信、而運其妙工於爾身；此尤吾儕之所引以為慰、而感謝天主不能自已者也。

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

We never stop thanking God for the way you received his word. You heard it from us. But you didn’t accept it as a human word. You accepted it for what it really is. It is God’s word. It is really at work in you who believe.

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.

For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of mere men, but as what it really is, the word of God, which also is at work in you who believe.

And so we too constantly thank God that when you received God’s message that you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human message, but as it truly is, God’s message, which is at work among you who believe.

For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.

But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,

But even though my condition tempted you to reject me, you did not despise me or turn me away. No, you took me in and cared for me as though I were an angel from God or even Christ Jesus himself.

When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers.

Jesus replied,“ But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

And the people of Berea were more open minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord— who is the Spirit— makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyeswhen he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place— until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.

“ Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me.

For it is not you who will be speaking— it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

“ This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s word.

Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.

Jesus replied,“ My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God’s word and obey it.”

And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.

When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said,“ We want to hear more about this later.”

So I sent for you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here, waiting before God to hear the message the Lord has given you.”

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly.As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said,“ What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said,“ He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”Then they took him to the high council of the city.“ Come and tell us about this new teaching,” they said.“ You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it’s all about.”

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord.As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in Greece— throughout both Macedonia and Achaia.And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it,for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God.And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God’s Son from heaven— Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.

I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.

One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.

He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.

Then he brought them out and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized.He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.

“ We will not listen to your messages from the Lord!

The following week almost the entire city turned out to hear them preach the word of the Lord.But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said.Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared,“ It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they sent Peter and John there.

“ Let these false prophets tell their dreams, but let my true messengers faithfully proclaim my every word. There is a difference between straw and grain!Does not my word burn like fire?” says the Lord.“ Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?

Let me say first that I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith in him is being talked about all over the world.God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all my heart by spreading the Good News about his Son.

Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day— about 3,000 in all.

One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.

If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing.If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.
