For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.

because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

Our good news didn’t come to you only in words. It came with power. It came with the Holy Spirit’s help. He gave us complete faith in what we were preaching. You know how we lived among you for your good.

and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake.

Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God— which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you.We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you.We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow.

They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.

He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things!

And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.

Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ.How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?Have you experienced so much for nothing? Surely it was not in vain, was it?I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters.Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.

Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach.

For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me— everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.I came to you in weakness— timid and trembling.And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.

So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.

So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.

Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called— his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty powerthat raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes— the Jew first and also the Gentile.

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

You yourselves know, dear brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not a failure.You know how badly we had been treated at Philippi just before we came to you and how much we suffered there. Yet our God gave us the courage to declare his Good News to you boldly, in spite of great opposition.So you can see we were not preaching with any deceit or impure motives or trickery.For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you well know. And God is our witness that we were not pretending to be your friends just to get your money!As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.Don’t you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you.You yourselves are our witnesses— and so is God— that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers.And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.

And this is the message I proclaim— that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.

But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.( It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry.In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind.We have been beaten, been put in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without food.We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.We faithfully preach the truth. God’s power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left hand for defense.We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors.We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed.Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

I went there because God revealed to me that I should go. While I was there I met privately with those considered to be leaders of the church and shared with them the message I had been preaching to the Gentiles. I wanted to make sure that we were in agreement, for fear that all my efforts had been wasted and I was running the race for nothing.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I worked among them.They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum.

Instead, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display, like prisoners of war at the end of a victor’s parade, condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the entire world— to people and angels alike.Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you claim to be so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are honored, but we are ridiculed.Even now we go hungry and thirsty, and we don’t have enough clothes to keep warm. We are often beaten and have no home.We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us.We appeal gently when evil things are said about us. Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash— right up to the present moment.

Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message.The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too.For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked,

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.“ There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said,‘ The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.

I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,

I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.

“ I have never coveted anyone’s silver or gold or fine clothes.You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus:‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.

When they arrived he declared,“ You know that from the day I set foot in the province of Asia until nowI have done the Lord’s work humbly and with many tears. I have endured the trials that came to me from the plots of the Jews.

Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you.I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed.Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning.I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.

“ As I began to speak,” Peter continued,“ the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning.Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?”When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said,“ We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”

But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place— until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.

The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the Lord.

Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.

he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.

let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
