in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction( surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).

because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

Our good news didn’t come to you only in words. It came with power. It came with the Holy Spirit’s help. He gave us complete faith in what we were preaching. You know how we lived among you for your good.

For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline among you,and we did not eat anyone’s food without paying. Instead, in toil and drudgery we worked night and day in order not to burden any of you.It was not because we do not have that right, but to give ourselves as an example for you to imitate.

They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things angels long to catch a glimpse of.

He called you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, and self- control. Against such things there is no law.

They went out and proclaimed everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs.]]

The only thing I want to learn from you is this: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law or by believing what you heard?Are you so foolish? Although you began with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort?Have you suffered so many things for nothing?– if indeed it was for nothing.Does God then give you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law or by your believing what you heard?

Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think,

Do not be led astray, my dear brothers and sisters.All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change.By his sovereign plan he gave us birth through the message of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

so that we who have found refuge in him may find strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us through two unchangeable things, since it is impossible for God to lie.We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast, which reaches inside behind the curtain,

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David; such is my gospel,

For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power.

And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.

For I decided to be concerned about nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.And I was with you in weakness and in fear and with much trembling.My conversation and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power,so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the power of God.

So I endure all things for the sake of those chosen by God, that they too may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus and its eternal glory.

My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ,

how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first communicated through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard him,while God confirmed their witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

But we passionately want each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of your hope until the end,

For since I am free from all I can make myself a slave to all, in order to gain even more people.To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law) to gain those under the law.To those free from the law I became like one free from the law( though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.To the weak I became weak in order to gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all means I may save some.I do all these things because of the gospel, so that I can be a participant in it.

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him,– since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened– so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,and what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe, as displayed in the exercise of his immense strength.This power he exercised in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

who made us adequate to be servants of a new covenant not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

For you yourselves know, brothers and sisters, about our coming to you– it has not proven to be purposeless.But although we suffered earlier and were mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in spite of much opposition.For the appeal we make does not come from error or impurity or with deceit,but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we declare it, not to please people but God, who examines our hearts.For we never appeared with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed– God is our witness–nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others,although we could have imposed our weight as apostles of Christ; instead we became little children among you. Like a nursing mother caring for her own children,with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.For you recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery: By working night and day so as not to impose a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.You are witnesses, and so is God, as to how holy and righteous and blameless our conduct was toward you who believe.As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his own children,

on the day when God will judge the secrets of human hearts, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Therefore, since we have this ministry, just as God has shown us mercy, we do not become discouraged.But we have rejected shameful hidden deeds, not behaving with deceptiveness or distorting the word of God, but by open proclamation of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience before God.But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing,

But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us,even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ– by grace you are saved!–

We do not give anyone an occasion for taking an offense in anything, so that no fault may be found with our ministry.But as God’s servants, we have commended ourselves in every way, with great endurance, in persecutions, in difficulties, in distresses,in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in troubles, in sleepless nights, in hunger,by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, by genuine love,by truthful teaching, by the power of God, with weapons of righteousness both for the right hand and for the left,through glory and dishonor, through slander and praise; regarded as impostors, and yet true;as unknown, and yet well- known; as dying and yet– see!– we continue to live; as those who are scourged and yet not executed;as sorrowful, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them.

I went there because of a revelation and presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I did so only in a private meeting with the influential people, to make sure that I was not running– or had not run– in vain.

for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort– for the sake of his good pleasure– is God.

For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem even as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, we are dishonored!To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, poorly clothed, brutally treated, and without a roof over our heads.We do hard work, toiling with our own hands. When we are verbally abused, we respond with a blessing, when persecuted, we endure,when people lie about us, we answer in a friendly manner. We are the world’s dirt and scum, even now.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the message.The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were greatly astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles,for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment–concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.“ I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come.He will glorify me, because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you.Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you.

Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have, given to you and confirmed by prophetic words when the elders laid hands on you.Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that everyone will see your progress.Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.

In the same way, the promise that I make does not return to me, having accomplished nothing. No, it is realized as I desire and is fulfilled as I intend.”

A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, a God- fearing woman, listened to us. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying.

just as I also try to please everyone in all things. I do not seek my own benefit, but the benefit of many, so that they may be saved.

To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.

The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.

for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down argumentsand every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to be sure of your calling and election. For by doing this you will never stumble into sin.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow.

I have desired no one’s silver or gold or clothing.You yourselves know that these hands of mine provided for my needs and the needs of those who were with me.By all these things, I have shown you that by working in this way we must help the weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out what you both see and hear.

When they arrived, he said to them,“ You yourselves know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I set foot in the province of Asia,serving the Lord with all humility and with tears, and with the trials that happened to me because of the plots of the Jews.

But even if we( or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell!As we have said before, and now I say again, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be condemned to hell!Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin.For I did not receive it or learn it from any human source; instead I received it by a revelation of Jesus Christ.

Then as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as he did on us at the beginning.And I remembered the word of the Lord, as he used to say,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’Therefore if God gave them the same gift as he also gave us after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder God?”When they heard this, they ceased their objections and praised God, saying,“ So then, God has granted the repentance that leads to life even to the Gentiles.”

For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait expectantly for the hope of righteousness.

Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed; the oppressed are trapped by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.Yes, the wicked man boasts because he gets what he wants; the one who robs others curses and rejects the LORD.

And do not lord it over those entrusted to you, but be examples to the flock.

he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,whom he poured out on us in full measure through Jesus Christ our Savior.

let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.
