This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the message about God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the message of God, which also works effectively in you believers.

For you yourselves know how you must imitate us: We were not irresponsible among you;we did not eat anyone’s food free of charge; instead, we labored and struggled, working night and day, so that we would not be a burden to any of you.It is not that we don’t have the right to support, but we did it to make ourselves an example to you so that you would imitate us.

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Angels desire to look into these things.

He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the accompanying signs.

I only want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now going to be made complete by the flesh?Did you suffer so much for nothing— if in fact it was for nothing?So then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?

Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—

Don’t be deceived, my dearly loved brothers.Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning.By His own choice, He gave us a new birth by the message of truth so that we would be the firstfruits of His creatures.

so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.We have this hope as an anchor for our lives, safe and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.

Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead and descended from David. This is according to my gospel.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

For I didn’t think it was a good idea to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit,so that your faith might not be based on men’s wisdom but on God’s power.

This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery— Christ.

how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.

Now we want each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the final realization of your hope,

Although I am a free man and not anyone’s slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win more people.To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win Jews; to those under the law, like one under the law— though I myself am not under the law— to win those under the law.To those who are without that law, like one without the law— not being without God’s law but within Christ’s law— to win those without the law.To the weak I became weak, in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I may by every possible means save some.Now I do all this because of the gospel, so I may become a partner in its benefits.

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.I pray that the perception of your mind may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints,and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.He demonstrated this power in the Messiah by raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand in the heavens—

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.

Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

He has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit produces life.

For you yourselves know, brothers, that our visit with you was not without result.On the contrary, after we had previously suffered, and we were treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, we were emboldened by our God to speak the gospel of God to you in spite of great opposition.For our exhortation didn’t come from error or impurity or an intent to deceive.Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but rather God, who examines our hearts.For we never used flattering speech, as you know, or had greedy motives— God is our witness—and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children.We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.For you remember our labor and hardship, brothers. Working night and day so that we would not burden any of you, we preached God’s gospel to you.You are witnesses, and so is God, of how devoutly, righteously, and blamelessly we conducted ourselves with you believers.As you know, like a father with his own children,

on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom,

Therefore, since we have this ministry because we were shown mercy, we do not give up.Instead, we have renounced shameful secret things, not walking in deceit or distorting God’s message, but commending ourselves to every person’s conscience in God’s sight by an open display of the truth.But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us,made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!

We give no opportunity for stumbling to anyone, so that the ministry will not be blamed.But as God’s ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardship, by difficulties,by beatings, by imprisonments, by riots, by labors, by sleepless nights, by times of hunger,by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,by the message of truth, by the power of God; through weapons of righteousness on the right hand and the left,through glory and dishonor, through slander and good report; as deceivers yet true;as unknown yet recognized; as dying and look— we live; as being disciplined yet not killed;as grieving yet always rejoicing; as poor yet enriching many; as having nothing yet possessing everything.

For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.

I went up according to a revelation and presented to them the gospel I preach among the Gentiles— but privately to those recognized as leaders— so that I might not be running, or have run the race, in vain.

For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose.

For I would not dare say anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to make the Gentiles obedient by word and deed,by the power of miraculous signs and wonders, and by the power of God’s Spirit. As a result, I have fully proclaimed the good news about the Messiah from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum.

For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: We have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men.We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless;we labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we respond graciously. Even now, we are like the world’s garbage, like the dirt everyone scrapes off their sandals.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who heard the message.The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.For they heard them speaking in other languages and declaring the greatness of God. Then Peter responded,

Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you.When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment:About sin, because they do not believe in Me;about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me;and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.“ I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you.Everything the Father has is Mine. This is why I told you that He takes from what is Mine and will declare it to you.

Let no one despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.Until I come, give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching.Do not neglect the gift that is in you; it was given to you through prophecy, with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.Practice these things; be committed to them, so that your progress may be evident to all.Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.

so My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul.

just as I also try to please all people in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, so that they may be saved.

A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial:to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit,to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit,to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of languages, to another, interpretation of languages.But one and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as He wills.

The Lord’s hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.

since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish argumentsand every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ.

Therefore, brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble.

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.You yourselves know that these hands have provided for my needs and for those who were with me.In every way I’ve shown you that by laboring like this, it is necessary to help the weak and to keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus, for He said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.

And when they came to him, he said to them:“ You know, from the first day I set foot in Asia, how I was with you the whole time—serving the Lord with all humility, with tears, and with the trials that came to me through the plots of the Jews—

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you, a curse be on him!As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone preaches to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him!For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not based on human thought.For I did not receive it from a human source and I was not taught it, but it came by a revelation from Jesus Christ.

“ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came down on them, just as on us at the beginning.Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’Therefore, if God gave them the same gift that He also gave to us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, how could I possibly hinder God?”When they heard this they became silent. Then they glorified God, saying,“ So God has granted repentance resulting in life even to the Gentiles!”

For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.

So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue the afflicted; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the Lord.

not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

He saved us— not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy— through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.He poured out this Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.
