They are doing just as they have always done. They have deserted me and served other gods. They have done that from the time I brought them up out of Egypt until this day. Now they are deserting you too.

They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert.He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them.In the camp they were envious of Moses and of Aaron, the LORD’s holy one.The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram.Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked.At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image.They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox.They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt,

When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him,“ Come, make gods for us who will go before us because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt— we don’t know what has happened to him!”

“ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it.”

The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD after Ehud had died.

But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep his decrees.They treacherously turned away like their ancestors; they became warped like a faulty bow.They enraged him with their high places and provoked his jealousy with their carved images.God heard and became furious; he completely rejected Israel.

You are not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You are to tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed me. What have you done?Therefore, I now say: I will not drive out these people before you. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a trap for you.”

two hundred fifty prominent Israelite men who were leaders of the community and representatives in the assembly, and they rebelled against Moses.They came together against Moses and Aaron and told them,“ You have gone too far! Everyone in the entire community is holy, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the LORD’s assembly?”

All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron, and the whole community told them,“ If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!Why is the LORD bringing us into this land to die by the sword? Our wives and children will become plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?”So they said to one another,“ Let’s appoint a leader and go back to Egypt.”

The next day the entire Israelite community complained about Moses and Aaron, saying,“ You have killed the LORD’s people!”

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the LORD?”

The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD handed them over to Midian seven years,

You have been rebelling against the LORD ever since I have known you.

The Israelites again did what was evil in the LORD’s sight, so the LORD handed them over to the Philistines forty years.

They said to Moses,“ Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt: Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
