And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint[ them] for himself, for his chariots, and[ to be] his horsemen; and[ some] shall run before his chariots.

他说：“那将要统治你们的王，会用以下的方法统治你们：他将夺走你们的儿子，分配他们作战车兵和马兵，奔跑在他的战车前；

他說：「那將要統治你們的王，會用以下的方法統治你們：他將奪走你們的兒子，分配他們作戰車兵和馬兵，奔跑在他的戰車前；

曰、治爾之王、其制度若此、必取爾子、使御車、為騎兵、趨於車前、

曰、既欲立王、治理爾曹、試陳其例。王必取爾子、使御車服馬、趨承於前者有之、

曰、治理爾之王必如是、將取爾子使為之御車、充其馬卒、奔走於車前、

He said,“ This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.

Samuel told them,“ Here’s what the king who rules over you will expect to be done for him. He will take your sons. He’ll make them serve with his chariots and horses. They will run in front of his chariots.

He said,“ These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen and to run before his chariots.

“ This is how a king will reign over you,” Samuel said.“ The king will draft your sons and assign them to his chariots and his charioteers, making them run before his chariots.

He said,“ These are the rights of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and put them to his use in his chariots, on his horses, or running in front of his chariots.

And he said,“ This will be the practice of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and put them in his chariots for himself and among his horsemen, and they will run before his chariots.

And he said,“ This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots.

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them unto him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;

He said,“ These are the rights of the king who will rule over you: He will take your sons and put them to his use in his chariots, on his horses, or running in front of his chariots.

He said,“ Here are the policies of the king who will rule over you: He will conscript your sons and put them in his chariot forces and in his cavalry; they will run in front of his chariot.

He said,“ This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.

Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote[ it] in a book, and laid[ it] up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.

And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that[ are] about me;Thou shalt in any wise set[ him] king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose:[ one] from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which[ is] not thy brother.But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of[ that which is] before the priests the Levites:And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment,[ to] the right hand, or[ to] the left: to the end that he may prolong[ his] days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for chariots, and with the king at Jerusalem.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen[ also], and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah,[ one] of the king’s captains.The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour[ were] two thousand and six hundred.And under their hand[ was] an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings[ to cast] stones.And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they[ were] men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.These[ were] the chief of the officers that[ were] over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
