When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader of Israel at Mizpah.

When the people had come together at Mizpah, they went to the well and got water. They poured it out in front of the Lord. On that day they didn’t eat any food. They admitted they had sinned. They said,“ We’ve sinned against the Lord.” Samuel was serving as the leader of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and, in a great ceremony, drew water from a well and poured it out before the Lord. They also went without food all day and confessed that they had sinned against the Lord.( It was at Mizpah that Samuel became Israel’s judge.)

Oh, that my head were waters, And my eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For the slain of the daughter of my people!

But Hannah answered and said,“ No, my Lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.

We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, We have done wickedly.

yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying,‘ We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness’;

Their heart cried out to the Lord,“ O wall of the daughter of Zion, Let tears run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief; Give your eyes no rest.“ Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Rivers of water run down from my eyes, Because men do not keep Your law.

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying,“ The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.”So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.

There is no soundness in my flesh Because of Your anger, Nor any health in my bones Because of my sin.For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.My wounds are foul and festering Because of my foolishness.I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.For my loins are full of inflammation, And there is no soundness in my flesh.I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made confession, and said,“ O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with dust on their heads.Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.

Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,“ Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.”So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent.And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said,“ Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes.And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water.But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.
