When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader of Israel at Mizpah.

When the people had come together at Mizpah, they went to the well and got water. They poured it out in front of the Lord. On that day they didn’t eat any food. They admitted they had sinned. They said,“ We’ve sinned against the Lord.” Samuel was serving as the leader of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and, in a great ceremony, drew water from a well and poured it out before the Lord. They also went without food all day and confessed that they had sinned against the Lord.( It was at Mizpah that Samuel became Israel’s judge.)

哈娜回答说：“我主啊，不是这样的，我是个心灵苦痛的妇人。淡酒和烈酒，我都没有喝；我是在耶和华面前倾心吐意。

我的眼睛泪流成河，因为人们不遵守你的律法。

我要起来，到我父亲那里去，对他说：‘父亲，我对天犯了罪，也在你面前犯了罪。

你们作子民的，要时时依靠他，在他面前倾心吐意，神是我们的避难所！细拉

我昼夜以眼泪为食；人们终日对我说：“你的神在哪里呢？”

我因叹息而困乏；每个夜晚，我的泪水使我的床榻漂浮，使我的床铺浸透。

因你的愤怒，我的肉体无一处健全；因我的罪过，我的骨头没有安宁；我的罪孽高过我的头，过于沉重，如同重担。因我的愚妄，我的伤口发臭腐烂；我屈身弯腰，低到极处，终日在哀痛中行走；因为我的腰满是灼痛，我的肉体无一处健全。我失去知觉，全然被压碎，我因内心挣扎而呻吟。

于是我转向主耶和华，以祷告、恳求、禁食、披麻蒙灰来寻求他。我向耶和华我的神祷告、认罪，说：“哦，主啊，大而可畏的神，你向那些爱你并遵守你诫命的人持守你的约和慈爱！我们犯了罪，行事歪曲，作恶背叛，偏离了你的诫命和法规，

耶和华的话语第二次临到约拿，说：“起来！到尼尼微大城去，向那城宣告我告诉你的信息！”约拿照着耶和华的话就起身，到尼尼微去。尼尼微是一座超级大城，走遍它需要三天的路程。约拿开始进入那城，走了一天的路程，宣告说：“再过四十天，尼尼微就要覆灭了。”尼尼微人就相信神，并宣告禁食，无论尊贵的或卑微的，都披上麻布。这话语传到尼尼微王的时候，他从自己的宝座上起来，从身上脱下王袍，披上麻布，坐在灰烬中。然后他颁布谕令，说：“在尼尼微，王和大臣有令：‘无论人或牲畜，牛或羊，都不可尝什么，不可吃什么，也不可喝水。人和牲畜都当披上麻布；各人都当迫切地向神呼求，从自己邪恶的道路上、自己手里的残暴中转回。或许神会转回、施怜悯，从他猛烈的怒气中转回，使我们不致灭亡。’”神看到他们所行的——从邪恶的道路上转回了，神就施怜悯，没有降下原先所说的要降在他们身上的灾祸。
