The ark remained at Kiriath Jearim a long time— twenty years in all. Then all the people of Israel turned back to the Lord.

The ark remained at Kiriath Jearim for a long time. It was there for a full 20 years. Then all the Israelites turned back to the Lord.

From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

哀慟的人有福了！因為他們必得安慰。

只要承認你的罪孽，就是你違背耶和華－你的神，在各青翠樹下向別神東奔西跑，沒有聽從我的話。這是耶和華說的。

耶和華的使者向以色列眾人說這話的時候，百姓就放聲而哭；

他們要哭泣而來。我要照他們懇求的引導他們，使他們在河水旁走正直的路，在其上不致絆跌；因為我是以色列的父，以法蓮是我的長子。

你們這背道的兒女啊，回來吧！我要醫治你們背道的病。看哪，我們來到你這裏，因你是耶和華－我們的神。仰望從小山或從大山的喧嚷中得幫助，真是枉然的。以色列得救，誠然在乎耶和華－我們的神。從我們幼年以來，那可恥的偶像將我們列祖所勞碌得來的羊羣、牛羣，和他們的兒女都吞吃了。我們在羞恥中躺臥吧！願慚愧將我們遮蓋；因為從立國以來，我們和我們的列祖常常得罪耶和華－我們的神，沒有聽從耶和華－我們神的話。

「我必將那施恩叫人懇求的靈，澆灌大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們必仰望我，就是他們所扎的；必為我悲哀，如喪獨生子，又為我愁苦，如喪長子。那日，耶路撒冷必有大大的悲哀，如米吉多平原之哈達臨門的悲哀。

因為依着神的意思憂愁，就生出沒有後悔的懊悔來，以致得救；但世俗的憂愁是叫人死。你看，你們依着神的意思憂愁，從此就生出何等的殷勤、自訴、自恨、恐懼、想念、熱心、責罰。在這一切事上，你們都表明自己是潔淨的。
