From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

你们这背道的儿女啊，回来吧！我要医治你们背道的病。看哪，我们来到你这里，因你是耶和华我们的神。仰望从小山或从大山的喧嚷中得帮助，真是枉然的。以色列得救，诚然在乎耶和华我们的神。从我们幼年以来，那可耻的偶像将我们列祖所劳碌得来的羊群、牛群，和他们的儿女都吞吃了。我们在羞耻中躺卧吧！愿惭愧将我们遮盖；因为从立国以来，我们和我们的列祖常常得罪耶和华我们的神，没有听从耶和华我们神的话。”

“我必将那施恩叫人恳求的灵，浇灌大卫家和耶路撒冷的居民。他们必仰望我，就是他们所扎的；必为我悲哀，如丧独生子，又为我愁苦，如丧长子。那日，耶路撒冷必有大大的悲哀，如米吉多平原之哈达临门的悲哀。

因为依着神的意思忧愁，就生出没有后悔的懊悔来，以致得救；但世俗的忧愁是叫人死。你看，你们依着神的意思忧愁，从此就生出何等的殷勤、自诉、自恨、恐惧、想念、热心、责罚。在这一切事上，你们都表明自己是洁净的。
