Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying,“ Up to here the LORD has helped us.”

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying,“ Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

Then Samuel got a big stone. He set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer. He said,“ The Lord has helped us every step of the way.”

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer; for he said,“ Till now the Lord has helped us.”

Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer( which means“ the stone of help”), for he said,“ Up to this point the Lord has helped us!”

Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it upright between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, explaining,“ The LORD has helped us to this point.”

He delivered us from so great a risk of death, and he will deliver us. We have set our hope on him that he will deliver us yet again,

Joshua also set up twelve stonesin the middle of the Jordan in the very place where the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood. They remain there to this very day.

I have experienced help from God to this day, and so I stand testifying to both small and great, saying nothing except what the prophets and Moses said was going to happen:

So Jacob set up a sacred stone pillar in the place where God spoke with him. He poured out a drink offering on it, and then he poured oil on it.

Now the Philistines had captured the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

And Abraham called the name of that place“ The LORD provides.” It is said to this day,“ In the mountain of the LORD provision will be made.”

So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a memorial pillar.Then he said to his relatives,“ Gather stones.” So they brought stones and put them in a pile. They ate there by the pile of stones.Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed.Laban said,“ This pile of stones is a witness of our agreement today.” That is why it was called Galeed.It was also called Mizpah because he said,“ May the LORD watch between us when we are out of sight of one another.If you mistreat my daughters or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no one else is with us, realize that God is witness to your actions.”“ Here is this pile of stones and this pillar I have set up between me and you,” Laban said to Jacob.“ This pile of stones and the pillar are reminders that I will not pass beyond this pile to come to harm you and that you will not pass beyond this pile and this pillar to come to harm me.

Moses built an altar, and he called it“ The LORD is my Banner,”

Early in the morning Jacob took the stone he had placed near his head and set it up as a sacred stone. Then he poured oil on top of it.He called that place Bethel, although the former name of the town was Luz.

Samuel revealed the word of the LORD to all Israel. Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines. They camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped at Aphek.

“ Listen to me, O family of Jacob, all you who are left from the family of Israel, you who have been carried from birth, you who have been supported from the time you left the womb.Even when you are old, I will take care of you, even when you have gray hair, I will carry you. I made you and I will support you; I will carry you and rescue you.

Joshua wrote these words in the Law Scroll of God. He then took a large stone and set it up there under the oak tree near the LORD’s shrine.Joshua said to all the people,“ Look, this stone will be a witness against you, for it has heard everything the LORD said to us. It will be a witness against you if you deny your God.”

At that time there will be an altar for the LORD in the middle of the land of Egypt, as well as a sacred pillar dedicated to the LORD at its border.

O God, you have taught me since I was young, and I am still declaring your amazing deeds.

I have leaned on you since birth; you pulled me from my mother’s womb. I praise you continually.

Now Joshua set up in Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.He told the Israelites,“ When your children someday ask their fathers,‘ What do these stones represent?’explain to your children,‘ Israel crossed the Jordan River on dry ground.’For the LORD your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you while you crossed over. It was just like when the LORD your God dried up the Red Sea before us while we crossed it.He has done this so all the nations of the earth might recognize the LORD’s power and so you might always obey the LORD your God.”
