到了早晨，法老靈裡煩亂，就派人召來了埃及所有的術士和智慧人。法老向他們講述了他的夢，但沒有人能為法老解夢。

王大聲高呼，要人把占卜者、迦勒底人和算命者帶來。王開口對巴比倫的智慧人說：「任何人讀出這文字，並把它的釋義講明給我，他就必身穿紫袍，項戴金鏈，在國中掌權，位居第三。」

於是王吩咐人召來術士、占卜者、行巫術的和迦勒底人，要他們把王的夢告訴王。他們就來了，站在王面前。

希律就召集了所有的祭司長和民間的經文士，向他們詢問基督誕生在哪裡。

堅持施行你的符咒和眾多法術吧！那些都是你從年輕時辛勞所得的，或許你能得益處，或許還能讓人恐懼呢！你因謀劃過多而筋疲力盡；現在就讓那些劃分天象、觀看星辰、在新月時說預言的都站出來吧，拯救你脫離那些將要臨到你的事！

耶和華啊，你撇棄了你的子民雅各家，因為他們中充斥著來自東方的惡俗，又像非利士人那樣充斥著算命者；他們還與外族人擊掌訂交。
