到了早晨，法老心裡煩亂，就派人去把埃及所有的術士和智慧人都召了來；法老把自己的夢告訴他們，但是沒有人能替法老解夢。

於是，法老也把智慧人和行法術的人召了來；他們本是埃及的術士，也用他們的巫術照樣行了。

王大聲呼叫，吩咐人把那些用法術的和迦勒底人，以及占星家都領進來；王對巴比倫的智慧人說：“誰能讀這文字，又能向我解釋它的意思，他必身穿紫袍，頸戴金鍊，在國中掌權，位列第三。”

於是王吩咐人把術士、用法術的、行邪術的和迦勒底人都召來，要他們把王的夢告訴王。他們來了，站在王面前。

我朝見耶和華，在至高的神面前叩拜，當獻上甚麼呢？我朝見他的時候，當獻上燔祭，當獻上一歲的牛犢嗎？耶和華喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？為我的過犯，我可以獻上我的長子嗎？為我的罪惡，獻上我親生的孩子嗎？世人哪！耶和華已經指示你甚麼是善，他向你所要的又是甚麼；無非是要你行公義，好憐憫，謙虛謹慎與你的神同行。聽啊！耶和華向這城呼叫，敬畏你的名就是智慧；支派和城裡的會眾啊！你們要聽。

他就召集所有的祭司長和民間的經學家，問他們基督應該生在哪裡。

繼續使用你從幼年時就勞碌施行的符咒和許多的邪術吧！或者你可以得到益處，也許你能叫人戰慄。你因你許多的計劃而勞累；現在讓那些劃分天象的，觀看星辰的，在月朔時說預言的，都站起來，拯救你脫離要臨到你身上的事。

耶和華啊！你離棄了你的子民雅各家，是因為他們充滿了東方的迷信，和占卜的人，像非利士人一樣，並且與外族人擊掌交易。
