早上法老心中不安，就派人召来埃及所有的术士和博学之士，把梦告诉他们，可是没有一个人能为他解梦。

法老召他的谋士和巫师前来，这些人是埃及的术士，他们也用邪术如法炮制。

他大声传令，召来巫师、占星家和占卜者，对这些巴比伦的智者说：“谁能读墙上的字，把意思告诉我，他必身穿紫袍，颈戴金链，在国中位居第三。”

便派人召来术士、巫师、行法术的和占星家，为他解梦。他们都来到王面前。

我要拿什么朝见耶和华，在天上的上帝面前叩拜呢？要献上一岁的牛犊作燔祭吗？耶和华会喜爱成千的公羊和万条油河吗？我要因过犯而献上自己的长子，因心中的罪恶而献上亲生的骨肉吗？世人啊，耶和华已经指示你们何为良善。祂向你们所要的是什么呢？是要你们行公义，好怜悯，谦卑地与你们的上帝同行。耶和华在向耶路撒冷呼喊，智者必敬畏祂的名。祂说：“聚在城里的众人啊，你们要听！

希律王就召来祭司长和律法教师，问他们：“基督在哪里降生呢？”

“你自幼就勤练符咒和五花八门的邪术，继续施展吧！也许会有用处，也许会令人害怕。众多的计谋使你疲惫不堪，让那些观天象、每月说预言的占星家来救你脱离将临的灾祸吧！

耶和华啊，你离弃了你的子民——雅各的后裔，因为他们当中充满了东方的恶俗，像非利士人一样占卜，跟外族人同流合污。
