以利亞對眾百姓說：「你們到我這裏來。」眾百姓就到他那裏，他把那已經毀壞了的耶和華的壇修好。以利亞按照雅各子孫支派的數目，取了十二塊石頭；耶和華的話曾臨到雅各，說：「你的名要叫以色列。」以利亞用這些石頭為耶和華的名築一座壇，在壇的四圍挖溝，可容納二細亞穀種。他又在壇上擺好了柴，把牛犢切成小塊放在柴上，說：「你們用四個桶盛滿水，倒在燔祭和柴上。」他又說：「倒第二次。」他們就倒第二次。他又說：「倒第三次。」他們就倒第三次。水流到壇的四圍，溝裏也滿了水。到了獻晚祭的時候，先知以利亞近前來，說：「耶和華－亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神啊，求你今日使人知道你是以色列的神，我是你的僕人，我遵照你的話做這一切事。求你應允我，耶和華啊，應允我，使這百姓知道你－耶和華是神，是你叫他們回心轉意的。」於是，耶和華降下火來，燒盡燔祭、木柴、石頭、塵土，又燒乾了溝裏的水。

說：『求你讓我去，因為我家在城裏有獻祭的事，我哥哥吩咐我去。如今我若在你眼前蒙恩，求你讓我去見我的兄弟。』所以大衛沒有來赴王的筵席。」

你要為我築一座土壇，在上面獻牛羊為燔祭和平安祭。凡在我叫你記念我名的地方，我必到那裏賜福給你。
