When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said,“ The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.”

When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place.But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. (niv)

And the people of Beth Shemesh asked,“ Who can stand in the presence of the Lord, this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?” (niv)

It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” (niv)

Pharaoh’s officials said to him,“ How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?” (niv)
