眾民就都到吉甲去，便在吉甲那裏、永恆主面前設立了掃羅為王；也在那裏在永恆主面前獻平安祭；在那裏掃羅和以色列眾人都非常歡喜。

非利士人一打起仗來，以色列人就被擊敗，各向自己的帳棚逃跑；那一場擊殺大極了；以色列人中倒斃了三萬步兵。上帝的櫃被拿去；以利的兩個兒子何弗尼非尼哈也死了。

並且呢、永恆主也必將以色列連你都交在非利士人手裏；明天你和你兒子們就同我在一處了；永恆主必將以色列軍兵交在非利士人手裏。』
