你们都知道收割麦子的时候不会下雨。现在，我要向耶和华祷告，求祂打雷降雨，好让你们知道，你们要求立王在耶和华眼中是多么大的罪。”

于是，他们来到吉甲，在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又向耶和华献上平安祭。扫罗和全体以色列人都非常欢喜。

非利士人和以色列人交战，以色列人败下阵来，纷纷逃回家中。他们伤亡惨重，损失了三万步兵。上帝的约柜被掳走了，以利的两个儿子何弗尼和非尼哈被杀身亡。

耶和华必把你和以色列人交在非利士人手里，明天你和你的儿子们必跟我在一起了。耶和华必把以色列的军队交在非利士人手里。”
