So Samuel told him everything. He didn’t hide anything from him. Then Eli said,“ He is the Lord. Let him do what he thinks is best.”

So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back.“ It is the Lord’s will,” Eli replied.“ Let him do what he thinks best.”

“ The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought,“ There will be peace and security in my lifetime.”

He replied,“ You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

Why should the living complain when punished for their sins?

But the Israelites said to the Lord,“ We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.”

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

and said:“ Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this.

Far be it from you to do such a thing— to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

But the king said,“ What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord said to him,‘ Curse David,’ who can ask,‘ Why do you do this?’”David then said to Abishai and all his officials,“ My son, my own flesh and blood, is trying to kill me. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone; let him curse, for the Lord has told him to.It may be that the Lord will look upon my misery and restore to me his covenant blessing instead of his curse today.”
