So Samuel told him everything. He didn’t hide anything from him. Then Eli said,“ He is the Lord. Let him do what he thinks is best.”

So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said,“ He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.”

So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back.“ It is the Lord’s will,” Eli replied.“ Let him do what he thinks best.”

So Samuel told him everything. He did not hold back anything from him. Eli said,“ The LORD will do what he pleases.”

“ The message the Lord has spoken through you is good,” Hezekiah replied. He thought,“ There will be peace and safety while I’m still living.”

Job replied,“ You are talking like a foolish woman. We accept good things from God. So we should also accept trouble when he sends it.” In spite of everything, Job didn’t say anything that was sinful.

A person who is still alive shouldn’t blame God when God punishes them for their sins.

But the Israelites replied to the Lord,“ We have sinned. Do to us what you think is best. But please save us now.”

So make yourselves humble. Put yourselves under God’s mighty hand. Then he will honor you at the right time.

He said,“ I was born naked. And I’ll leave here naked. The Lord has given, and the Lord has taken away. May the name of the Lord be praised.”

I keep silent. I don’t open my mouth. You are the one who has caused all this to happen.

You would never kill godly people along with those who are evil, would you? Would you treat them all alike? You would never do anything like that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is right?”

But the king said,“ You and Joab are sons of Zeruiah. What does this have to do with you? Maybe the Lord said to him,‘ Curse David.’ If he did, who can ask him,‘ Why are you doing this?’ ”Then David spoke to Abishai and all his officials. He said,“ My very own son Absalom is trying to kill me. How much more should this man from Benjamin want to kill me! Leave him alone. Let him curse. The Lord has told him to do it.Maybe the Lord will see how much I’m suffering. Maybe he’ll bring back to me his covenant blessing instead of his curse I’m hearing today.”
