So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said,“ He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.”

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah,“ The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good,” for he thought: There will be peace and security during my lifetime.

“ You speak as a foolish woman speaks,” he told her.“ Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?” Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.

Why should any living person complain, any man, because of the punishment for his sins?

But the Israelites said,“ We have sinned. Deal with us as you see fit; only rescue us today!”

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time,

saying: Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. The LORD gives, and the LORD takes away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.

I am speechless; I do not open my mouth because of what you have done.

You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just?”

The king replied,“ Sons of Zeruiah, do we agree on anything? He curses me this way because the LORD told him,‘ Curse David!’ Therefore, who can say,‘ Why did you do that?’”Then David said to Abishai and all his servants,“ Look, my own son, my own flesh and blood, intends to take my life— how much more now this Benjaminite! Leave him alone and let him curse me; the LORD has told him to.Perhaps the LORD will see my affliction and restore goodness to me instead of Shimei’s curses today.”
