從埃及東面的西曷河往北、直到以革倫境界，就算迦南人的地；那裏有非利士人五個霸主：就是迦薩人、亞實突人、亞實基倫人、迦特人、以革倫人；並有亞衛人

他們就打發人去把非利士人的眾霸主聚集到他們那裏，說：『我們要怎樣處置以色列上帝的櫃呢？』他們說：『讓以色列上帝的櫃轉運到迦特去吧』；於是將以色列上帝的櫃轉運到迦特去。轉運到了以後，永恆主的手攻擊那城，那城非常紛亂驚慌；又擊打那城的人、無論大小都暴發了鼠疫疱。他們就把上帝的櫃送到以革倫；上帝的櫃到了以革倫，以革倫人就喊叫起來，說：『他們將以色列上帝的櫃轉運到我們這裏，要害死我們和我們的眾民了。』於是打發人去把非利士人的眾霸主聚集了來，說：『把以色列上帝的櫃送走吧，使它回原處去，免得害死了我們和我們的眾民』；這是因為上帝的手加在那裏極重了，致人於死的驚慌紛亂佈滿了全城。

非利士人說：『我們要還給他的應當是甚麼樣的賠罪禮物呢？』他們說：『要照非利士人霸主的數目、用五個金鼠疫疱、五個金老鼠，因為你們眾人和你們的霸主們都遭遇了一樣的疫災。
