掃羅見大闢出、與非利士人戰、則問軍長押尼耳、曰、此少者誰人之子與。對曰、我指王生命以誓、我不相識。

初掃羅之妃哩斯巴乃愛雅之女也、益破設責押尼耳、曰、我父嬪嬙、爾曷玷辱。押尼耳怒曰、我不從猶大族、惟助爾父掃羅家、及其戚屬友朋、不陷爾於大闢手、爾反視我若犬首、今日乃為此女詰責我乎。

押尼耳至希伯崙、約押佯欲私語、導至邑門側、刺其腹、致之於死、以報殺弟亞撒黑之仇。

王為押尼耳作悲歌曰、押尼耳之死、豈若罪犯哉。爾手足無桎梏、猶人亡於匪類、爾之死亡、亦若是。民又為之哭。時未及夕、民至於前、請大闢食餅。大闢誓曰、如日未入、而我食餅、或食諸物、願上帝罰我。民見此甚悅、王凡所為、無不悅服。當日以色列族眾咸知、殺尼耳子押尼耳者、非由於王。王謂臣僕曰、今日在以色列族中、元戎陷於死亡、汝豈不知。
