掃羅看見大衛去迎戰非利士人，就問押尼珥元帥說：「押尼珥，那年輕人是誰的兒子？」押尼珥說：「王啊，我在你面前起誓，我不知道。」

掃羅的妻子名叫亞希暖，是亞希瑪斯的女兒。掃羅軍隊的元帥名叫押尼珥，是掃羅的叔叔尼珥的兒子。掃羅的父親基士，押尼珥的父親尼珥，都是亞別的兒子。

大衛早晨起來，把羊交託一個看守的人，照耶西所吩咐的帶着食物去了。到了軍營，軍隊剛出到戰場，吶喊叫陣。

掃羅軍隊的元帥，尼珥的兒子押尼珥，曾將掃羅的兒子伊施‧波設帶過河，到瑪哈念，立他作王，治理基列、亞書利、耶斯列、以法蓮、便雅憫和以色列眾人。掃羅的兒子伊施‧波設登基的時候年四十歲，作以色列王二年，但是猶大家卻隨從大衛。大衛在希伯崙作猶大家的王，共七年六個月。尼珥的兒子押尼珥和掃羅的兒子伊施‧波設的僕人從瑪哈念出來，往基遍去。

尼珥生基士；基士生掃羅；掃羅生約拿單、麥基‧舒亞、亞比拿達和伊施巴力。

掃羅有一妃子，名叫利斯巴，是愛亞的女兒。一日，伊施‧波設對押尼珥說：「你為甚麼與我父的妃子同寢呢？」押尼珥因伊施‧波設的話非常生氣，說：「我豈是狗的頭，向着猶大呢？我今日忠心對待你父掃羅的家和他的弟兄、朋友，不將你交在大衛手裏，今日你竟為這婦人責備我嗎？

押尼珥回到希伯崙，約押領他到城門中間，要與他私下交談，就在那裏刺穿了他的肚腹。他就死了，因為他流了約押兄弟亞撒黑的血。

王為押尼珥舉哀，說：押尼珥怎麼會像愚頑人一樣地死呢？你手未曾被捆綁，腳未曾被腳鐐鎖住。你仆倒，如仆倒在兇惡之子手下一樣。於是眾百姓又為押尼珥哀哭。白天的時候，眾百姓來勸大衛吃飯，但大衛起誓說：「我若在太陽未下山以前吃飯，或吃任何東西，願神重重懲罰我！」眾百姓知道了就看為好。凡王所做的，眾百姓都看為好。那日，以色列眾百姓才知道殺尼珥的兒子押尼珥並非出於王意。王對臣僕說：「你們豈不知今日在以色列中倒了一個作元帥的大人物嗎？

有一個便雅憫人名叫基士，是便雅憫人亞斐亞的玄孫，比歌拉的曾孫，洗羅的孫子，亞別的兒子，是個大能的勇士。
