Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw where Saul and Abner son of Ner, the commander of the army, had lain down. Saul was lying inside the camp, with the army encamped around him.

David slipped over to Saul’s camp one night to look around. Saul and Abner son of Ner, the commander of his army, were sleeping inside a ring formed by the slumbering warriors.

Immediately, David went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw the place where Saul and Abner son of Ner, the commander of his army, were lying down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the camp with the troops camped around him.

當時掃羅看見大衛出去迎戰那非利士人，就問元帥押尼珥：「押尼珥，這少年是誰的兒子？」押尼珥回答：「王啊，我指著王的生命起誓：我不知道。」

掃羅的妻子名叫婭希暖，是亞希瑪斯的女兒。他的元帥名叫押尼珥，是掃羅的叔叔尼珥的兒子；掃羅的父親基士和押尼珥的父親尼珥都是亞別的兒子。

於是大衛清早起來，把羊群交託給一個看守的人，就照著耶西所吩咐的，帶上東西出發了。他來到行營時，軍隊正出去擺陣，呐喊出戰。

尼珥的兒子押尼珥——掃羅的元帥，帶著掃羅的兒子伊施波設渡過河到瑪哈念，然後立他為王治理基列、亞書利、耶斯列、以法蓮、便雅憫——整個以色列。掃羅的兒子伊施波設作以色列王的時候四十歲，統治了兩年。猶大家卻跟隨大衛；大衛在希伯崙作猶大家的王共七年零六個月。有一次，尼珥的兒子押尼珥與掃羅的兒子伊施波設的臣僕們，從瑪哈念出來去基遍；

掃羅有一個妃嬪，名叫利斯巴，是阿亞的女兒。伊施波設對押尼珥說：「你為什麼與我父親的妃嬪同房呢？」押尼珥因伊施波設的話極其惱火，他說：「我是猶大的狗頭嗎？我如今以恩慈對待你父親掃羅的家和他的兄弟、夥伴，沒有把你交在大衛手中，你現在竟指控我和這女人犯罪！

押尼珥回到希伯崙，約押把他拉到城門裡要與他私下說話。約押在那裡刺穿他的腹部，他就死了，因為他流了約押弟弟亞撒暉的血。

王為押尼珥作哀歌，說：「押尼珥死去，怎麼像愚頑人死去！你的手沒有被捆住，你的腳沒有被銅鐐枷住，你卻仆倒，像人仆倒在不義之子面前！」全體民眾就又為他哀哭。人們在白天的時候都來勸大衛吃點東西，但大衛起誓說：「如果我在日落之前吃了餅或其他任何東西，就願神處置我，重重地處置我！」人們都認同了，這在他們眼中看為好，正如王所做的每一件事在他們眼中都看為好。那天，全體民眾和全以色列都知道，殺尼珥的兒子押尼珥不是出於王意。王又對他的臣僕說：「難道你們不知道，今天在以色列中有一位領袖、一位偉人倒下了嗎？

便雅憫支派有一個人名叫基士；他是亞別的兒子，亞別是洗羅的兒子，洗羅是比歌拉的兒子，比歌拉是亞斐亞的兒子，亞斐亞是一個便雅憫人的兒子。基士是個有勢力的人。
