扫罗看见大卫出去迎战那非利士人，就问元帅押尼珥：“押尼珥啊，这个年轻人是谁的儿子？”押尼珥回答：“我敢指着王起誓，我不知道。”

扫罗的妻子名叫亚希暖，是亚希玛斯的女儿。扫罗军队的元帅名叫押尼珥，是尼珥的儿子，尼珥是扫罗的叔叔。扫罗的父亲基士和押尼珥的父亲尼珥都是亚别的儿子。

大卫清早起来，把羊群托给一个看守的人，就照着耶西所吩咐他的，带着食物去了。他来到军营中的时候，军队正出去列阵，吶喊助阵。

当时，扫罗的元帅尼珥的儿子押尼珥已经领着扫罗的儿子伊施波设，把他带过河到玛哈念去，并且立了他作王，统治基列、亚书利、耶斯列、以法莲、便雅悯和以色列众人。扫罗的儿子伊施波设作以色列王的时候，已经四十岁；他作王共两年。犹大家却追随大卫。大卫在希伯仑作王统治犹大家的时候共有七年零六个月。尼珥的儿子押尼珥带着扫罗的儿子伊施波设的仆从，离开玛哈念，到基遍去。

尼珥生基士，基士生扫罗，扫罗生约拿单、麦基舒亚、亚比拿达和伊施．巴力。

扫罗有一个妃子，名叫利斯巴，是爱亚的女儿。伊施波设对押尼珥说：“你为什么亲近我父亲的妃子呢？”押尼珥因伊施波设的话非常忿怒，说：“我是犹大的狗头吗？今天我厚待你的父亲扫罗家、他的兄弟和他的朋友，没有把你交在大卫的手中；可是，今天你竟为了这女人的事来找我的错！

押尼珥回到了希伯仑，约押就拉他到城门的瓮洞里与他密谈。约押就在那里刺透他的肚子，他就死了。这样，他替自己的兄弟亚撒黑报了血仇。

王又为押尼珥作了哀歌，说：“难道押尼珥死去，要像愚妄的人死去一样吗？你的手没有被绳索绑住，你的脚也没有被铜链锁住，你倒毙，好像人在暴徒面前倒毙一样！”于是，众民又为押尼珥哀哭。还在白天的时候，众人都来劝大卫吃点饭；大卫起誓说：“我若在日落以前吃饭或吃什么东西，愿神降罚我，重重地降罚我。”众人看见了，就都喜悦。王所作的一切，他们都很喜悦。那一天众人和全以色列都知道，杀死尼珥的儿子押尼珥，并不是出于王的意思。王对他的臣仆说：“你们不知道今天在以色列中，有一位将领和伟人倒毙了吗？

有一个便雅悯人，名叫基士，是亚别的儿子。亚别是洗罗的儿子，洗罗是比歌拉的儿子，比歌拉是亚斐亚的儿子。（这便雅悯人是个大财主。）
