But now let my lord the king listen to his servant. If the Lord has stirred you up against me, then let him accept my offering. But if this is simply a human scheme, then may those involved be cursed by the Lord. For they have driven me from my home, so I can no longer live among the Lord’s people, and they have said,‘ Go, worship pagan gods.’

Now let my lord the king listen to his servant’s words. If the Lord has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. If, however, people have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord! They have driven me today from my share in the Lord’s inheritance and have said,‘ Go, serve other gods.’

So let my lord the king now listen to the words of his servant. If the LORD has incited you against me, may he take delight in an offering. But if men have instigated this, may they be cursed before the LORD! For they have driven me away this day from being united with the LORD’s inheritance, saying,‘ Go on, serve other gods!’

Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying,‘ Go, serve other gods!’

and rescue us from those who would cut us off from the inheritance God has given us.

I am one who is peace loving and faithful in Israel. But you are destroying an important town in Israel. Why do you want to devour what belongs to the Lord?”

Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants,“ My own son is trying to kill me. Doesn’t this relative of Saul have even more reason to do so? Leave him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him to do it.

Not only that— he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment. He is also a fine looking young man, and the Lord is with him.”So Saul sent messengers to Jesse to say,“ Send me your son David, the shepherd.”Jesse responded by sending David to Saul, along with a young goat, a donkey loaded with bread, and a wineskin full of wine.So David went to Saul and began serving him. Saul loved David very much, and David became his armor bearer.Then Saul sent word to Jesse asking,“ Please let David remain in my service, for I am very pleased with him.”And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.

Your eyes will shine, and your heart will thrill with joy, for merchants from around the world will come to you. They will bring you the wealth of many lands.

Once again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he caused David to harm them by taking a census.“ Go and count the people of Israel and Judah,” the Lord told him.
