拿八秉性甚厲、人符其名、所行不端、我主勿以為意、昔我主所遣之少者、婢不及見。

求我主勿以此匪人拿八為意、其性與其名相稱、彼名拿八、譯即愚妄之義所行愚妄、昔我主大衛所遣之少者、婢未曾見、

Please pay no attention, my lord, to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name— his name means Fool, and folly goes with him. And as for me, your servant, I did not see the men my lord sent.

Please don’t pay any attention to that evil man Nabal. His name means Foolish Person. And that’s exactly what he is. He’s always doing foolish things. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to see the men you sent.

Let not my lord regard this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him. But I your servant did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent.

I know Nabal is a wicked and ill tempered man; please don’t pay any attention to him. He is a fool, just as his name suggests. But I never even saw the young men you sent.

所以你当筹划，看怎样行才好；不然，祸患定要临到我主人和他全家。他性情凶暴，无人敢与他说话。”

万军之耶和华说：你们若不听从，也不放在心上，将荣耀归与我的名，我就使咒诅临到你们，使你们的福分变为咒诅；因你们不把诫命放在心上，我已经咒诅你们了。

现在，我主我王，不要把这事放在心上，以为王的众子都死了，只有暗嫩一个人死了。”

所以，他将猛烈的怒气和争战的勇力倾倒在以色列的身上。在他四围如火着起，他还不知道，烧着他，他也不介意。

我主啊，耶和华既然阻止你亲手报仇，取流血的罪，所以我指着永生的耶和华、又敢在你面前起誓说：‘愿你的仇敌和谋害你的人都像拿八一样。’
