Now David had said,“ Surely in vain have I guarded all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him, and he has returned me evil for good.

大衛追思、昔我在曠野之時、守斯人所有、俾毫無所失、豈非徒勞乎、彼以惡報善、

David had just said,“ It’s been useless— all my watching over this fellow’s property in the wilderness so that nothing of his was missing. He has paid me back evil for good.

David had just said,“ Everything we’ve done hasn’t been worth a thing! I watched over that fellow’s property in the desert. I made sure none of it was stolen. But he has paid me back evil for good.

David had just been saying,“ A lot of good it did to help this fellow. We protected his flocks in the wilderness, and nothing he owned was lost or stolen. But he has repaid me evil for good.

David had just said,“ I guarded everything that belonged to this man in the wilderness for nothing. He was not missing anything, yet he paid me back evil for good.

Now David had said,“ It is certainly for nothing that I have guarded everything that this man has in the wilderness, so that nothing has gone missing of all that belonged to him! For he has returned me evil for good.

Now David had said,“ Surely in vain I have protected all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belongs to him. And he has repaid me evil for good.

Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath returned me evil for good.

David had just said,“ I guarded everything that belonged to this man in the wilderness for nothing. He was not missing anything, yet he paid me back evil for good.

Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this[ fellow] hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that[ pertained] unto him: and he hath requited me evil for good.

Now David had been thinking,“ In vain I guarded everything that belonged to this man in the desert. I didn’t take anything from him. But he has repaid my good with evil.

Now David had said,“ Surely in vain I have kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him. He has returned me evil for good.

If anyone returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.

For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.

They repay me evil for good; my soul is bereft.

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer.So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

They had gone only a short distance from the city. Now Joseph said to his steward,“ Up, follow after the men, and when you overtake them, say to them,‘ Why have you repaid evil for good?

Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good.

Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

A senseless, a nameless brood, they have been whipped out of the land.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

And David said to his men,“ Every man strap on his sword!” And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage.

See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
