“有一个财主，身穿紫色袍子和细麻衣，天天奢华宴乐。又有一个穷人，名叫拉撒路，满身脓疮，被放在财主的门口，渴望得到财主桌子上掉下来的碎渣充饥，甚至有狗来舔他的疮。后来那穷人死了，被天使们带到亚伯拉罕的怀里。接着，那财主也死了，并且被埋葬了。财主在阴间的痛苦中，举目远远地望见亚伯拉罕，又望见拉撒路在他怀里，就呼唤说：‘我父亚伯拉罕，可怜我吧！请打发拉撒路用指头蘸点水，凉一下我的舌头吧，因为我在这火焰里，极其痛苦！’“可是亚伯拉罕说：‘孩子啊，你当想起，你一生怎样享了你的福，而拉撒路怎样受了苦；但如今他在这里受到安慰，你却在痛苦中。

因为我看到恶人享平安时，就嫉妒那些狂傲的人。他们到死也没有疼痛，他们的身体肥壮；他们没有一般人所受的苦难，也不与普通人一样遭遇灾害。因此自高是他们的项链，残暴如衣裳披在他们的身上。他们的眼睛因体胖而凸出，心里的妄想四处泛滥。

那时亚伯兰拥有极多的牲畜和金银。

耶和华啊，求你用手使我脱离世人——他们只在今生有份：你用你所储藏的填满他们的肚腹；他们也因有儿女而满足，还把剩余的留给他们的幼儿。

大卫的两个妻子，耶斯列人娅希暖和迦密人纳巴尔的遗孀娅比盖，也被掳走了。

他就昌大起来，日渐强大，变得非常昌盛。
